Notes from Alemany Lakewood game

On Friday, Alemany defeated Lakewood 42-21 at John Ford Stadium in a great quarterfinal matchup. Lets take a look at how the top players in that game performed.

Vernon Adams- 5’11 170 QB            Class of 2011

The undersized yet elusive quarterback propelled the Warriors Friday night to a 42-21 win over a very talented Lakewood team.  Adams displayed why he is considered as one of the most dangerous dual threat quarterbacks in Southern California throwing for 196 yards and rushing for 71 yards while seemingly always coming up with the big play when the Warriors needed it the most.  Adams used his legs to extend plays all night showing off his strong arm and impressive ability to throw on the run. Vernon is having a exceptional season for an Alemany team that will have a Pac-5 showdown next week vs. Servite for the right to play in the championship game. It’s time for colleges to take note of this guy’s skills.

Todd Barr- 6’3 265 DL            Class of 2011

A high motor guy with great technique who constantly is getting a push on the line.  He gets a great jump off the ball using his quickness to beat his defenders.  Todd is an athletic defensive lineman who could play tackle or end at the next level. He looks as if he could still add some more bulk to his upper body but overall is a phenomenal prospect.  His athleticism cannot be undervalued as Lakewood lined him up in the slot, and in the backfield, both positions showing how talented he is.  He is a top level BCS school player.  Had 1.5 sacks on Friday night while showing his athleticism against a very good Alemany offensive line.

Akeem Gonzales- 6’4 250 OT            Class of 2011

Akeem is an athletic lineman who is an elite pass blocker with a bright future ahead of him.  He has a big frame that he will need to add weight over the course of his career at the next level. All in all he played a strong game Friday night neutralizing the Lakewood pass rush that was led by Todd Barr while delivering a couple nice hits on the defensive side of the ball.  We see him playing somewhere in the Pac-12 next year.  Also is a three-time League champion in wrestling.

Rahim Cassell- 6’1 220 OLB COMMIT: Oregon             Class of 2011

Rahim is an athletic Outside linebacker who is very instinctive and has the fluidity in his hips to cover like a DB.  The Oregon commit has good size and speed and is one of those athletes you want at the linebacker position with ability to cover and hit equally well. Whenever a play was being made it seemed as if Cassell was right there.  We see Cassell as someone who will have a very good career at the next level.

Torian White- 6’6 270 OT COMMIT: UCLA             Class of 2011

White is a tall, aggressive tackle with long arms and good feet.  He has a big frame that will allow him to play at the 300lb+ range however; he is a likely redshirt candidate as he is probably about 30lbs away from making an impact. He showed flashes of brilliance Friday night stoning the opposing lineman on multiple occasions and driving him with a nasty streak that we like to see. We see him as a very good player at UCLA.

Darius Powe- 6’2 190 WR            Class of 2012

A very talented receiver who has very good speed and can make people miss in the open field.  Darius has good size at about 6’2 with strong hands allowing him to make tough catches over the middle.  He had a big game Friday night hauling in 6 catches for 144 yards and touchdown.  Powe was impressive with his aggressive style and overall ability to run and catch at his size and should be in store for a huge senior season next year.  We see him as someone who can play at a high level BCS school.
